ISABEL MILLÁN
ABOUT
Isabel Millán is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Oregon. She holds a PhD in American Culture from the University of Michigan. Her research areas include children’s literature, critical ethnic studies, transnational feminist and queer theories, bilingual children’s media, comics, science fiction, and ephemera. Millán’s book, Coloring into Existence: Queer of Color Worldmaking in Children’s Literature, theorizes children's picture books across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico (2023, New York University Press). Millán is also the author and illustrator of the award-winning children’s picture book, Chabelita’s Heart/El corazón de Chabelita, a queer bilingual story of two girls who discover they like one another (2022, Reflection Press). Her other publications include articles in Signs, Feminist Formations, and Aztlán, as well as chapters in Keywords for Comic Studies, Graphic Borders: Latino Comics Past, Present, and Future, and The Routledge Companion to Latina/o Popular Culture.
